Chicago and Washington, DC have recently revisited planned phase-outs of the minimum wage for tipped employees, while voters in Massachusetts rejected one, making the issue an area to watch for employment law observers. Labor and Employment Shareholder James Looby shared his perspective on this developing area in the Law360 Employment Authority article, “3 Places Where The Tip Credit Debate Is Playing Out.”

James notes the need for employers to be proactive about complying with wage requirements at the local, state and federal levels. He also discusses how removing the tip credit could result in fewer overtime and minimum wage violations.
