Patrick C. Johnston

Patrick Johnston represents institutional and commercial clients in real estate acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, finance and construction matters.

His broad-based experience spans single-site $1 million deals to complex transactions involving over 400 sites valued at over $500 million. Pat represents real estate investment companies, private equity firms, manufacturers, medical groups, and other clients in acquiring, leasing and disposing of office, commercial, industrial, retail, multifamily, healthcare, mixed-use and other property types. He also represents landlords and tenants in leasing properties, institutional and commercial lenders and borrowers in real estate finance transactions, and other interested parties regarding property ownership, project construction, leasing and divestitures.

Before becoming a lawyer, Pat worked as a construction engineer and project manager for a full-service national builder, where he gained firsthand experience addressing the challenges contractors, property owners, architects, designers and construction industry parties face. He leverages that knowledge and experience when representing clients in negotiating construction contracts and advising on construction administration issues and various other construction-related matters.

• Acted for the lender in negotiating a $100 million loan for build-to-rent developments in multiple states.
• Represented a private equity firm in a complex purchase-sale-leaseback transaction for industrial/manufacturing properties in three states.
• Led real estate diligence for 400+ sites in connection with the $2+ billion acquisition of a national chain.
• Represented the owner in negotiating a $60+ million construction contract for Chicago’s West Loop Hotel.
