Ji Woon Kim provides counsel to international banks, private equity, private credit, finance companies, investors, export-credit agencies, borrowers and lessors, guiding them through legal and commercial issues in (i) banking and financing transactions and (ii) asset finance matters involving commercial and business aircraft, rolling stock and maritime assets.

Ji constructs market-driven, creative solutions across the spectrum of banking and financing transactions and asset finance matters for international clients with a particular focus in Asia and clients based in Asia and focused both regionally and internationally. He advises clients on all legal and commercial issues in connection with cross-border unsecured bank financings, back-leveraged operating lessor financings, export-credit agency-supported financings, cross-border leveraged leases and JOL/JOLCO financings. 

His experience also includes aircraft pre-delivery payment financings, mortgage financings, warehouse financings, bareboat charter financings, revolving credit facilities, and secondary loan trading. Additionally, clients retain Ji for counsel regarding operating leases, finance leases, time charters, sale and leasebacks, asset trades, asset securitization, capital market financings, hedging/swaps, aircraft nonpayment insurance products, and restructurings.

  • Represented a private credit platform in connection with the lease financing of Airbus A321 aircraft for VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company.
  • Advised an international commercial French bank (as agent, security trustee and lender) in connection with the U.S.-dollar and Euro-denominated back-leveraged financing of an Airbus A321 aircraft leased to Wizz Air for AerDragon Aviation.
  • Acted for an international commercial Korean bank (as arranger, agent, security trustee and lender) in connection with the Canadian-dollar-denominated finance lease for an A321neo aircraft for Korean Air Lines.
  • Counseled an international commercial Japanese bank and French bank (as arrangers, trustee, agent and senior lenders) in connection with the Balthazar nonpayment insurance-backed financing of an A321 aircraft for Asiana Airlines.
  • Represented an export-credit agency in connection with the U.S.-dollar, Euro and Korean-won denominated ECA-supported financings of Boeing 737 and Boeing 787 aircraft for Korean Air Lines.
  • Advised a Singapore-based container shipping company regarding the formation of the shipping company’s United States platform.
