Joseph Kye is a Shareholder at Vedder and previously served as Vice Chair of the firm’s Finance and Transactions Group (Mergers & Acquisitions).

Joe practices in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, corporate, securities, and business law, with a focus on middle-market transactions involving public and private companies. His experience includes structuring, negotiating, documenting, and closing a broad range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital financings, public and private debt and equity offerings, structured financings, joint ventures, international transactions, private equity fund formations, and other complex corporate matters. He has represented sellers, acquirers, management teams, issuers, underwriters, venture capital and private equity funds, family offices, and public, private, and distressed companies. Joe also serves as outside general counsel to a number of closely held corporations.

Joe advises clients on acquisition, financing, and general business and legal matters, including issues involving real estate, securities laws, health care, intellectual property, employee contracts and compensation arrangements, bankruptcy, and technology licensing. Known for his practical, steady approach, he helps clients navigate complex transactions efficiently while managing risk and advancing their commercial objectives.

Joe regularly speaks and teaches on corporate and M&A topics, including presentations at The Entrepreneurship Institute’s Presidents’ Symposium and the American Bar Association Annual Meeting, and he frequently leads continuing legal education programs on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and venture capital. Within the firm, Joe has previously served on the hiring committee and as Co-Chair of the Summer Associate Program, and he currently serves on the diversity and shareholder compensation committees.

Joe serves on the boards of two Chicago-based nonprofit organizations. He is the immediate past board chair of Urban Gateways, which provides art and literature education to underprivileged children, and he serves on the executive committee of CASL, which provides social services and support to Asian immigrant families.
